The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy (MFBE) is the government institution responsible for the sustainable management and development of Somalia's vast marine resources. Established to harness the potential of our 3,333-kilometer coastline and 830,389 square kilometers of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Our History

2012

Ministry Establishment

The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy was established as part of the Federal Government of Somalia's restructuring efforts.

2015

First Fisheries Law

Somalia's first comprehensive fisheries law was enacted, providing the legal framework for marine resource management.

2018

International Partnerships

Strategic partnerships were formed with international organizations including FAO, EU, and regional fisheries bodies.

2020

Digital Transformation

Launch of digital licensing system and online services to improve efficiency and transparency.

2023

Blue Economy Strategy

Adoption of the National Blue Economy Strategy to guide sustainable marine development.
